    Can Antibiotics Treat Coronavirus Diseases?

To understand the influence of antibiotics on Coronavirus Disease, we need to understand two things to know that antibiotics treat coronavirus or not:

    • Antibiotics work for prophylactics and the management of bacterial diseases.
    • Coronavirus is a virus – it is not a bacteria.

There is a crucial difference between a bacteria and a virus.

    Antibiotics Treat Coronavirus

    Bacteria

Bacteria are living beings. They consist of 1 cell. This is enough to call it a living being. What is more, they live, eat, reproduce, and die. All those are distinctive features of an organism. Bacteria don`t necessarily need donors – bodies to live. They may survive on different surfaces for quite an extended period.

    Virus

A virus is not alive; it`s not a being. It`s a biological polymer – a complicated combination of proteins. They may appear and function inside another living being (even a bacteria). On the other hand, they cannot survive without a donor body. For example, Coronavirus may survive out of a body for several hours only. Generally, you may compare a virus to a seed. Once it hits a favorable environment, it starts to grow and flourish.

    Antibiotics Action

Antibiotics work against bacterial disease; therefore, they are useless against viruses. Viruses have different sizes, features, and nature. Because of that, antibiotics don`t recognize viruses. A virus causes COVID-19 (full name CoronaVirus Desease 2019). Therefore antibiotics cannot treat COVID-19, although they are sometimes prescribed to Coronavirus patients. It happens when a patient already has an accompanying bacterial infection. Or if he is at risk of getting one. The use of antibiotics as the only means to treat COVID-19 is not only useless. It may be dangerous.

Antibiotics are dangerous for COVID-19 patients.

Broad-spectrum antibiotics kill all bacteria in a patient`s body. The human body is full of bacteria. Not all of them are dangerous and call infections. Some protect our bodies. They create a microclimate that helps our organism to function normally. And that is why during a course of antibiotics, doctors always prescribe probiotics. They help to restore bacteria that are necessary for the body. If antibiotics kill microorganisms that perform a protective shield, it may also weaken you, as a result, you may face a much more severe course of the disease.

    Myths about prophylactics and treatment:

There are lots of myths about prophylactics and treatment of Coronavirus Disease. Most of them are utterly ineffective. And antibiotics are a severe medication. If you feel any of COVID-19 symptoms, you should address medical help immediately and strictly follow doctor`s recommendations.
